A rising star has emerged on the cricket scene! Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) proudly introduced Mayank Yadav to the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, showcasing his exceptional talent. After earning the Player of the Match title in a recent game, Mayank continued to shine, delivering impressive figures of three wickets for 14 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. This outstanding performance by Mayank significantly contributed to LSG’s 28-run victory.
Chasing a target of 182, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) got off to an impressive start, thanks to the solid partnership between Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli. The home crowd’s support boosted their performance as the opening batsmen confidently added 40 runs and showcased some excellent stroke play. One notable highlight was Kohli’s lofted shot off Naveen-ul-Haq in the fourth over, sailing straight down the ground and finding the boundary rope.
M Siddharth stunned the Bengaluru crowd during the fifth over by inducing an edge off Virat Kohli’s bat, resulting in the ball flying into Devdutt Padikkal’s hands at point. This breakthrough prompted Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to introduce Mayank into the attack. In the first ball of the sixth over, Faf du Plessis played a shot towards mid-wicket and hurried for a quick single. Padikkal swiftly retrieved the ball, threw it at the non-striker’s end, and successfully ran out the RCB captain. A few deliveries later, Glenn Maxwell attempted a pull shot but only managed to offer a simple catch to mid-on. RCB’s innings swiftly turned from 40 for no loss to 44 for three wickets down.
After the powerplay phase, Cameron Green confidently executed a pull shot off Mayank for a boundary through mid-on. Mayank quickly adjusted by delivering a fuller ball angled towards the stumps. Green, unable to cope with the pace, missed the ball completely, resulting in his stumps being dismantled. This wicket put Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a precarious position.
Rajat Patidar showed some resistance with a quick 29 off 21 deliveries, receiving support from Anuj Rawat. However, as the required run rate increased, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced mounting pressure. Mayank Yadav made a crucial return to dismiss Patidar for his third wicket, caught at deep square-leg while attempting a pull shot. Towards the end, RCB’s hopes stayed alive as Mahipal Lomror aggressively kept them in contention, scoring a rapid 33 off just 13 balls before getting caught at long-off. Yash Thakur and Naveen-ul-Haq then delivered decisive blows for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), securing victory following Mayank’s impactful spell.
In the first innings, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were sent in to bat by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis. The foundation of their innings was laid by Quinton de Kock, who showcased his aggressive intent early on. De Kock signaled his intentions by lofting a delivery over cover for a boundary and following it up with a cut shot through point for another four, both off Reece Topley’s first over. Continuing his attacking approach, in the third over, he flicked Mohammad Siraj over fine-leg for a six, the first of the match. De Kock then lofted the next ball over square leg for another six, highlighting his dominance at the crease.
KL Rahul quickly got into his stride and launched two massive sixes during his innings. However, in the final over of the powerplay, Rahul attempted to sweep Glenn Maxwell for another six but was caught out on the following delivery. Devdutt Padikkal came in after Rahul’s departure but struggled to find his rhythm. His innings came to an end in the ninth over when he top-edged a delivery from Mohammad Siraj, resulting in a good catch taken by Anuj Rawat who ran back to claim it.
During the middle overs, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) effectively contained the opposition and managed to reduce the scoring rate, minimizing the damage done by the opposition batsmen.
Marcus Stoinis contributed with a quick 24 runs off 15 balls, including two sixes, before being dismissed by Maxwell. Quinton de Kock, on the other hand, played a pivotal role in anchoring the innings with a brilliant 81 off 56 balls. He showcased excellent shot selection, keeping Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in contention for a substantial score. However, after his dismissal in the 17th over, the responsibility of scoring runs shifted to Nicholas Pooran.
Nicholas Pooran unleashed a fierce attack in the final two overs, hammering an impressive five sixes. Despite a slight slowdown in scoring during the middle overs, Pooran’s explosive innings of an unbeaten 40 off 21 deliveries propelled Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) beyond the 180-run mark. On the bowling front, Glenn Maxwell stood out for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), claiming two wickets for just 23 runs in his four-over spell. Yash Dayal also chipped in with a wicket, conceding 24 runs in his full quota of overs.
